A Musical Heartbeat of the Blue Jay Community

The Guthrie Public Schools band program plays a central role in the educational and cultural life of students in Guthrie, Oklahoma. At Guthrie High School, band is an accepted part of the school’s academic and extracurricular offerings, with students participating in a variety of settings including marching, concert performance, and ensemble work. As outlined in the district’s course materials, the band program requires members to attend all performances — from football games and pep rallies to parades, concerts, and contests — as well as rehearsals outside the school day. This emphasizes commitment and accountability.

The band is active throughout the school calendar, with scheduled summer band sessions that help prepare students for the season ahead, as well as regular rehearsals — including sectionals for percussion and evening rehearsals with community engagement events like ice cream socials.
