Guthrie Vs. Tuttle: Week 0
This last Thursday the Guthrie Bluejays faced off with the Tuttle Tigers for a Thursday night week 0 game. Spirits were high and ready for this game, after the devastating loss for Guthrie last year where the game ended 24-31 and Tuttle came out on top.
Multiple Guthrie football players have stated that they wanted their revenge for the loss last year but that seems it wasn’t the case. Both teams went on to make state for each of their respective classes. Tuttle nor Guthrie were able to pull out the wins for those games. The standard has been set high for both teams from last year.
“We are really excited to play in the new remodeled stadium and excited for the competition” Said Brayden Stone, assistant coach for the Guthrie, before the game. “ The team has been putting in the hard work all summer for this, been putting in the work that nobody sees. We finally get to show that fully off.”
The final score for the game was 13-38 with Tuttle winning the face off. Guthrie opened up the game but ended up having to settle with a punt. Tuttle started off the game with a big run made by Shawn Rounsaville Jr #12. They ended up settling with a field goal on that drive.
The Tuttle Tigers seemed to be the more dominant team in the game, they were shutting down Guthrie's offense and showing the weaknesses in Guthrie's defense. Tuttle started to get too comfortable which led them to have false start penalties and a couple holding calls but they stayed in the game. Right before the first half ended Sr Linebacker #9 Kellen Hirzel added to his stats with a sack.
At the end of the first half the score was 6-17 with the Tigers in the lead. Sr Cruz Campbell ,Quarterback for the Tigers, He ended last season with a solid 40 passing touchdowns. This game he had 1 throwing touchdown pass.
Tuttle started out the second half with a kick return touchdown to Jr #8 Major Vanderburg, which after the Field goal made the score 6-24. Guthrie finally started to get the ball rolling with a big catch by Sr #21 Owen Wilder ,tight end for the Guthrie Bluejays. Another big catch was made by Sr #7 Maddox Vaughn on 3rd down but wasn't enough to get the first. Tuttle responded to this by running in another touchdown.
By the end of the third the total yard for Tuttle was 308yds ,not including kick returns ,punt returns, or interceptions, the total yard for Guthrie was only 157yds. In the 4th quarter Tuttle got yet another touchdown. Guthrie responded by getting the final touchdown of the game by Sr #3 Amare Watson which made the score of the game 13-38 with Tuttle taking the win. In all Tuttle showed Guthrie the weaknesses in their defense and offense. Next week Guthrie has a bye week while Tuttle faces off against the Newcastle Racers Friday at Tuttle Friday, September 5th, at 7:00pm.
